Learn to look inward in a different, deeper way.

What is a session like with me?

A session can look a lot of different ways, but one main similarity is making time to pause and listen to the body and it’s cues in the present moment. Through art and somatic processes, sessions become an invitation to go beyond words, beyond just talking about your life, and into the present moment, your physical experience, and deeper levels of awareness.  The end goal is for you to move towards knowing and feeling that you can manage anything that happens in your life.

Sessions with me can address a variety of experiences:

  • Sudden incidents like a car accident, surgery, fall, or altercation

  • Long-term patterns of stress, overwhelm, or shut down

  • Past traumas that seem to still filter how you see the world or relate to others

A trauma can be anything that overwhelms the body’s ability to cope. Some sessions will bring newfound awareness and relief to you, while others may be more subtle.  In this space, in slowing down, we can tune in more, and look for the quiet clues in your physiology that can teach us how you and your nervous system relate to the world.

As an Art Therapist (ATR-BC) and Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP), I provide a truly unique approach to what you bring to a session.  I offer a space to slow down and listen more deeply, sometimes through the body’s cues, sometimes through artistic expression, and more often through both at the same time. Somatic Experiencing® is a framework on which I build a session.  Then, bringing in art offers a wonderful tool to help you get out of the thinking mind and into the felt body experience. The art-making becomes an action to explore, and the artwork itself turns into an important resource where emotions and memory can arise and be felt.

In sessions, you can expect to have experiences such as:

  • Newfound internal awareness

  • Seeing stuck patterns more clearly

  • Releasing stored activation

  • Learning to listen to what your body is telling you

  • Creative exploration and collaboration towards your goals and wishes

By traveling inward slowly and exploring the subtle cues in your nervous system, we can complete patterns stuck from past events and increase your capacity to experience and manage your life as it arises.  I want to support you in creating something different in your life, something new, something better.

I can be a great fit for you if…

You have experience in self-work, whether in therapy, mindfulness, energy work or other modalities, and you are looking for a new way into depth and discovery.

You want to restore your capacity to be more present in the moment, in your body, thoughts, and emotions and change your experience of your life as more joyful.

You have an emotional pattern that is getting in the way of your daily life. Perhaps you get easily overwhelmed.  Maybe you have been told you have PTSD.

Maybe you have a talk therapist and are looking for trauma-focused somatic work to complement what you and your therapist are discussing.  We can all work together. (PS This isn’t necessary. We can work together whether you have a therapist or not)

I may not be a great fit for you if…

You are experiencing an immediate crisis and need emergency support.

You are looking for a licensed therapist or social worker in North Carolina. I am not one.

You are experiencing suicidal thoughts or unaddressed substance abuse for which you do not have other current therapeutic support.
